What makes us alike is greater than what makes us different
Riding Gear Here's what you'll need to ensure a safe and comfortable motorcycle riding experience:
Is the clothing waterproof? Our padded jackets and trousers are windproof and 'shower-proof'. We define a shower as riding in light-medium rain, intermittent or steady, for about an hour. In that case our jackets, gloves & trou will keep you dry on the inside. If you continue to ride in rain, certainly torrential rain, for longer than about an hour it is highly likely you will get wet. If this is likely to be a problem for you (as much as you can predict what the weather will be here before you come!) then we recommend you bring a rainsuit, either one-piece or perhaps PVC over-trousers. Most customers tend to rationalise rain-riding and getting moist as part of the motorcycling experience, and avoid bulking out their limited luggage space with a rainsuit. For that reason we don't hire rainsuits. Remember that there is no dry-season in the South Island and the island's weather is hugely influenced by the Southern Alps. In Christchurch it can be swelteringly hot, whereas 3 hours' ride away on the West Coast it may be pouring down. In summary, if you are considering hiring our riding clothing please understand it is 'showerproof' only and we emphasise that if you choose to ride in incessant rain then you will eventually get that cold trickle down the inside of your shirt! Luggage Carriers and Bags Luggage carriers, known as panniers, are available for hire To reduce the amount of luggage you need to take with you on your ride, Motorcycles New Zealand also offers a secure luggage storage facility for the duration of your rental.
